Slavery was brutal and harsh men and woman were often split from their families because slaveowners had no compassion about splitting up families.
However, life after slavery in Dread Nation is completely different from what happened in real life.įor the most part, slavery consisted of agricultural work although larger plantations consisted of field workers and house servants.
Although, slavery was still something that existed in Dread Nation and life during slavery is mentioned a few times. There were no zombies that rose up after the civil war that put a stop to the war and therefore all events after that are fictional. It is fairly obvious that the events of Dread Nation by Justina Ireland are not historically accurate.
